As the popularity in electric vehicles (EVs) continues to rise, one question we often get asked is how to charge an electric vehicle. The team at LaFontaine Kia is here to tell you how easy charging an EV is, and how you’ll be back to cruising Ann Arbor, Belleville, and Canton, MI, in no time.
Let’s get started!
Before we can talk about how to charge an electric vehicle, we must first talk about what classifies as an electric vehicle. For a vehicle to be categorized as an EV, it must run on one or more electric motors instead of gasoline.
When people think of EV, there are three types of cars that commonly come to their mind: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric vehicles. Though, following the definition of an electric vehicle, only some of these types are truly EVs.
Charging an electric vehicle is as simple as plug and play. All you need to get started is a 120V outlet and the charging cable that comes standard with most Kia electric vehicles. From there, sit back and relax while your EV charges.
To make charging your EV as easy as possible, there are three different ways to charge your Electric Vehicle:
Let’s take a closer look at each of the options you have when you drive a Kia electric vehicle.
As mentioned, many Kia electric vehicles come standard with a 120V-charging cable. This charger can get plugged into any standard outlet, making it easy and convenient to charge your vehicle while you’re at home or when visiting your parents for the weekend.

The Level 2 Charger can charge your electric vehicle in less time than imagined. This charger gets plugged into a 240V outlet, which you likely already have for major appliances. Since it’s plugged into a more powerful outlet, it can charge more miles in less time compared to the Level 1 Charger.

When you’re on the road for an extended period, you need to charge your Kia electric vehicle to ensure you get from Point A to Point B. For that, you need the 480V DC Fast Charger. These chargers are found along highways and densely populated areas. While on the go, simply use the Kia Access app to search nearby charging stations.
